Ciao Ciao Newsletter Summer Term – Week 3

 Dear Parents,

Summer Term – Week 3

This week’s topic was Science: Experiments.

Throughout the week, we talked about different scientist jobs and carried out some exciting experiments. Our eight small caterpillars have now moved into their chrysalises. Over the coming days and weeks, the children will have the opportunity to watch them transform into butterflies.

In Art and Craft, the children created a large butterfly with leaves and a small abstract canvas by mixing vinegar, paint, and baking soda.

Vocabulary Focus

This week, we introduced and explored the following words:

experiment, mixing, colour, scientist, astronomy, astronaut, engineering, recycling, climate change, rocket, space, etc.

Group Time Highlights

During group time, we:

* Danced to a “Zoom Zoom” song

* Learned opposites in maths: big and small, tall and short, etc.

* Introduced the letter R in phonics (for rocket)

* Read the story “The Scientist”

* Began practising new songs for the end-of-year show

Montessori Activity

In the Montessori tray, the children practised opening and closing boxes, helping to develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

A Quick Look at Our Week

Monday:

In Italian, we learned a new song called “Giro Giro Tondo.” The children also practised the “Farfallina” song and reviewed previous exercises.

Tuesday:

Instead of cooking, we carried out two experiments. The children made a volcano using clay, then used red colouring, baking soda, and vinegar to make it erupt. They also explored a float-and-sink experiment using a large container filled with water.

Wednesday:

At Forest School, the children collected flowers, mashed them with stones, and mixed them with soil to create natural colours.

Thursday:

During Computer Science time, the children practised using the mouse through a maths activity, helping to develop hand-eye coordination and early numeracy skills.

Friday (Drama & Music):

In Drama, the children revisited last week’s classical music by Vivaldi. They then acted out different “scientist” movements and practised copying facial expressions.
