Ciao Ciao Newsletter Spring Term - Week 8

Ciao Ciao Newsletter – Spring Term, Week 8

Dear Parents,

This week’s theme was Healthy Food.We explained to the children the difference between healthy food and junk food. The children also made strawberry, banana, and grape crafts (adding black dots to the strawberries) to help develop their fine motor skills and hand control.

### Vocabulary Focus

This week we introduced and explored the following words:

healthy food, junk food, strawberries, grapes, bananas, watermelon, hot dogs, cupcakes, tomatoes, pizza, tangerines, oranges, apples, and more.

### Group Time Highlights

During group time, we talked about the importance of eating healthy food. We explained that some foods such as chocolate, cupcakes, cake, hot dogs, and sausages are considered junk food. We discussed that these foods may taste nice but eating too much of them can make us feel unwell or give us a stomach ache.

We also explained how important it is to eat fruits and vegetables of all the colours of the rainbow, as they help our bodies grow strong and healthy.

- We danced to vegetable songs.

- In Maths, the children matched numbers with groups of fruit.

- In Phonics, we introduced the letter F for food.

- We read the story “Handa’s Surprise.”

### Montessori Activity

On the tray, we prepared pictures of fruits and junk food, along with a box with two holes: one for healthy food and one for junk food.

The children had to decide whether the food they picked was healthy or junk food and place it in the correct hole.

### A Quick Look at Our Week

Monday:

In Italian, the children repeated the song “Viva la Frutta.” They learned words such as mela (apple), pera (pear), banana, and uva (grapes).

Tuesday:

We prepared a fresh fruit salad. The children chopped bananas, strawberries, grapes, and mandarins, then placed everything into a cup and squeezed orange and lemon juice on top. The oranges, lemons, and mandarins were organic and came from my Italian farm.

Wednesday:

At Forest School, Shabina spent time with the children in the big garden and asked them to collect anything they thought animals could eat. Most of the children collected grass and then stuck it into their Forest School books.

Thursday:

It was World Book Day. The children came dressed up and had lots of fun. In the afternoon, they prepared their own personal books.

During Computer Science time, they also learned how to create pictures using the iPad.

Friday (Drama & Music):

The children acted out the story “Handa’s Surprise.” Some children, with a basket on their heads, pretended to be Handa while the others acted as the animals stealing the fruit in the story.
