 Ciao Ciao Newsletter  Spring Term – Week 5

Dear Parents,

This week our theme was “The Body.”  

Children explored this topic through creative, hands-on activities that supported language development, physical coordination, and early scientific understanding.


They built a Mrs Potato Head body, encouraging discussion about body parts and where they belong. Children also drew the human body using a large poster for reference, helping them observe details and proportions. Painting activities using stamps allowed children to express creativity while strengthening fine motor control.

### Vocabulary Focus

This week we introduced and practised the following words:


Body parts: head, shoulders, eyes, arms, nose, elbow, and more.

Children were encouraged to use these words during group discussions, songs, and play.

### Group Time Highlights

- We talked about body parts using a large body poster, helping children identify and name each part.

- We sang body songs such as “My Shoulders Need Some Exercise” and “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes,” promoting movement, rhythm, and listening skills.

- For maths, children worked on finger numbers and learned how to show 5 and 10 using their fingers.

- We introduced the letter B for Body, practising letter recognition and sound awareness.

- We read a book called “Body,” encouraging listening skills and group participation.

### Montessori Activities


- Children played the game Operation, carefully removing beans from holes representing body organs while trying not to touch the edges—otherwise the patient’s nose turned red!  

  This activity develops: fine motor skills, hand–eye coordination, concentration, patience, and body awareness.

- Children also worked on body puzzles to reinforce learning.  

  This activity develops: problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, cognitive development, and knowledge of the human body.

### A Quick Look at Our Week

Monday:  

In Italian, we learned body-related words such as mano, piede, gamba, spalla, and braccia, supporting bilingual language development.

Tuesday:  


We cooked bread and butter pudding, using eggs, butter, bread, raisins, and sugar. This activity encouraged children to follow instructions, take turns, and explore textures and smells.

Wednesday:  

At Forest School, children measured each other and compared heights. The tallest child was Laura! This was a fun way to introduce early maths and comparison language.

Thursday:  

Children played mime games using laptops and a mouse, helping to improve hand–eye coordination, focus, and early technology skills.

Friday (Drama & Music):  

Children took part in a puppet show of Little Red Riding Hood, encouraging imagination, storytelling, and expressive language.

- Friday 13th: Last day of school before February half term  

- School reopens: Monday 23rd February

Newsletter Summer Term – Week 7

  Ciao Ciao Newsletter Summer Term – Week 7 Dear Parents, This week, we celebrated  Father’s Day  with lots of love and creativity! The children worked on two special activities: • A  Father’s Day card • A  Super Dad bookmark We also began practicing for  Sports Day —and let’s just say, getting everyone to follow instructions was a workout in itself! 😂 ⸻ Vocabulary Focus: This week, we introduced the words: flying ,  lying ,  sad , and  grumpy Group Time Highlights: • We read  Dogs Can Fly • Sang nursery rhymes • Practiced counting from 1 to 10 • Worked with groups of objects • Learned a fun new  numbers song ⸻ Montessori Activity: Our sensory experience this week was a  sand pit  activity. Newsletter Week 5

  Ciao Ciao Newsletter Summer Term – Week 5 Dear Parents, Our topic for the week is  butterflies . This week, we focused on the butterfly life cycle. The children painted paper butterflies, made caterpillars out of egg boxes, and decorated butterfly stencils. We also watched a BBC video about metamorphosis. We introduced important vocabulary such as: Butterfly, Cocoon, Chrysalis, Metamorphosis During group time, we read  The Very Hungry Caterpillar , sang nursery rhymes, practiced counting from 1 to 10, and reviewed the letters A, B, and C. Our Montessori activity this week focused on a practical life skill:  washing toys . Here’s a quick look at what we did each day: • Monday – Italian We sang “Farfallina” and practiced our “Ciao Ciao” song.  (Farfallina means “butterfly” in Italian.) • Tuesday – Cooking We made bread with rosemary or oregano.
