Ciao Ciao Newsletter Spring Term – Week 5

Ciao Ciao Newsletter  Spring Term – Week 5

Dear Parents,

This week our theme was “The Body.”

Children explored this topic through creative, hands-on activities that supported language development, physical coordination, and early scientific understanding.

They built a Mrs Potato Head body, encouraging discussion about body parts and where they belong. Children also drew the human body using a large poster for reference, helping them observe details and proportions. Painting activities using stamps allowed children to express creativity while strengthening fine motor control.

### Vocabulary Focus

This week we introduced and practised the following words:

Body parts: head, shoulders, eyes, arms, nose, elbow, and more.

Children were encouraged to use these words during group discussions, songs, and play.

### Group Time Highlights

- We talked about body parts using a large body poster, helping children identify and name each part.

- We sang body songs such as “My Shoulders Need Some Exercise” and “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes,” promoting movement, rhythm, and listening skills.

- For maths, children worked on finger numbers and learned how to show 5 and 10 using their fingers.

- We introduced the letter B for Body, practising letter recognition and sound awareness.

- We read a book called “Body,” encouraging listening skills and group participation.

### Montessori Activities

- Children played the game Operation, carefully removing beans from holes representing body organs while trying not to touch the edges—otherwise the patient’s nose turned red!

This activity develops: fine motor skills, hand–eye coordination, concentration, patience, and body awareness.

- Children also worked on body puzzles to reinforce learning.

This activity develops: problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, cognitive development, and knowledge of the human body.

### A Quick Look at Our Week

Monday:

In Italian, we learned body-related words such as mano, piede, gamba, spalla, and braccia, supporting bilingual language development.

Tuesday:

We cooked bread and butter pudding, using eggs, butter, bread, raisins, and sugar. This activity encouraged children to follow instructions, take turns, and explore textures and smells.

Wednesday:

At Forest School, children measured each other and compared heights. The tallest child was Laura! This was a fun way to introduce early maths and comparison language.

Thursday:

Children played mime games using laptops and a mouse, helping to improve hand–eye coordination, focus, and early technology skills.

Friday (Drama & Music):

Children took part in a puppet show of Little Red Riding Hood, encouraging imagination, storytelling, and expressive language.

### Reminders & Important Dates

- Tuesday 10th: Magician Show

- Friday 13th: Last day of school before February half term

- School reopens: Monday 23rd February

Thank you for your continued support. We hope you enjoy hearing about all the wonderful learning taking place this week.

Wishing you all a lovely and restful weekend!

Warm regards,

Linda
