Summer Term – Week 5

Dear Parents,

Our topic for the week is butterflies.

This week, we focused on the butterfly life cycle. The children painted paper butterflies, made caterpillars out of egg boxes, and decorated butterfly stencils. We also watched a BBC video about metamorphosis.

We introduced important vocabulary such as:

Butterfly, Cocoon, Chrysalis, Metamorphosis

During group time, we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, sang nursery rhymes, practiced counting from 1 to 10, and reviewed the letters A, B, and C.

Our Montessori activity this week focused on a

practical life skill: washing toys.

Here’s a quick look at what we did each day:

Monday – Italian

We sang “Farfallina” and practiced our “Ciao Ciao” song. (Farfallina means “butterfly” in Italian.)

Tuesday – Cooking

We made bread with rosemary or oregano. The children mixed flour, water, salt, yeast, and oil to make their dough, then chose their own herbs to flavor it.

Wednesday – Forest School

At Maytt’s Field Park Garden, we collected ivy and planted it in pots. Each pot was bring to home.

Thursday – Computer Science

We practiced using a computer mouse with a fun hand-washing game.

Friday – Drama

We acted out The Very Hungry Caterpillar! The children pretended to be caterpillars, munching on fruits and vegetables, then transforming into butterflies.

We released real butterflies too – it was a bit tricky getting them to leave the cozy nest, but once they flew away, the children were thrilled to watch them go.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Warm regards,

Linda
