Summer Term – Week 9

Dear Parents,

This week, we celebrated Healthy Food Week with lots of fun and engaging activities!

The children created beautiful fruit art by sticking coloured paper onto their drawings. We also set up a Fruits and Vegetables Shop on the mat throughout the week. Some children played the role of customers while others took turns being the cashier.

We also continued practicing for Sports Day—we’re all getting ready for Tuesday! 🏅 The children have been working hard on their sports certificates and preparing their own medals.

Vocabulary Focus

This week, we introduced vocabulary related to healthy and unhealthy food:

Healthy Food & Junk Food:

Pear, strawberry, cucumber, pineapple, mango, avocado, hot dog, cake, cupcake, hamburger, etc.

Group Time Highlights

We read Handa’s Surprise and talked about the foods in the story

Sang nursery rhymes

Practised counting from 1 to 10

Explored shapes

Worked with groups of objects

Learned a new ballet dance for our upcoming show

Montessori Activity

Our Montessori focus this week was identifying healthy vs. junk food and sorting them into the correct sections of a box. This activity helps children develop a better understanding of food choices and healthy eating habits.

A Quick Look at Our Week

Monday (Italian): We began linking words from a song to actions.

Tuesday (Cooking):

We prepared a healthy Italian rice salad using rice, tomatoes, cucumber, tuna, carrots, salt, and extra virgin olive oil.

Wednesday: We didn’t have Forest School, as we had a special visit from Bubble Church. The children had a wonderful time!

Thursday (Computer Science): We discussed how a whiteboard works.

Friday (Drama & Music):

We acted out Handa’s Surprise, with the children pretending to be Handa. They collected fruits in a basket and carefully walked while balancing it on their heads.

In Music, we introduced three new instruments: the violin, saxophone, and guitar. Children listened to the sounds and guessed which instrument was playing—without seeing it!
